I’m looking for an old sci fi movie about a man sent to a prison planet. He was sent there as a political rebel for painting anti government things on a wall. Upon arriving at the planet the man is captured by a older man who then tries to sell him to a group of scavengers as a “story teller” but because he has no stories no one wants to buy him. Until a single mother buys him to help her and her son scavenge for food. The man teaches the scavengers how to irrigate and grow food while bonding with the boy. When things are starting to look up a group of bandits come along and try to force the scavengers to grow food for them. The “story teller” leaves to find the old man that sold him to the scavengers to learn how to fight. The old man helps him and gives him a big riffle and the story teller returns to save the scavengers and lives with the mom happily ever after.
