Couple coding questions about Closets.

I have read on this forum and other places that Closets do not need outlets so I understand that but...

I have heard from one source that closets need lighting, and other sources closets do not need lighting. So what is the official code on the closet lighting issue?

Lighting in a closet is optional , not required by the national Electric Code. If there is any requirement, it must be a local code.

If lighting is installed in a closet, the light fixture cannot be a bare incandescent lamp. A surface incandescent fixture with a globe, or a recess fixture with a lens, or a fluorescent surface mounted fixutre, and there are restrictionsas to location. This is all to prevent any combustibles stored on a shelf to come in contact with a hot light bulb left on by accident.

This can be reviewd in Section # 410.8 of the NEC 2005 editon, see the Read this First Sticky note for a link to the NEC.
