View Full Version : 1.5" pop-ip drain in a 2" opening?

I have purchased a nice new acrylic soaking tub. The actual, measured drain opening is exactly 2" in diameter. I'd really like to use a pop-up drain (push to close, push again to open), but all I can locate anywhere is a pop-up drain that's 1.5" in diameter. My plumber is afraid that installing a drain that's a half-inch smaller than the opening is very risky.

What do you think? Search more or take a chance? My concern is that if it starts leaking in a month or two, extracting the drain (the tub sits flat on the floor and is sealed with caulk) will be very difficult. Thoughts? Advice?

Hi Bbaicad

You're getting hung up on the 1.5", but that number speaks to the tubular metal sizeing...not the drain assembly itself!

Here, the strainer threads on a typical pop-up drain measures 1-7/8" across with a strainer trim size of 2-3/4" so any pop-up drain assembly will fit your tub perfectly! I'm sure of it!

Good luck!
