We just bought a new Hyundai Elantra 2013. All of a sudden the remote
Doesn't open the trunk... not on the first try but on the fifth. The rear window
Fogged up but after clearing it it didn't happen until the next day.

I thought it smelled like garbage but my friend said it was a new car smell.
Do you think this could be a flood car? I looked at at from head to rear
And looked for the usual signs (wet floors, upholstery, leaves in grooves,
etc. it was okay)

Is there any recourse if we have more problems. We're in NY where our
Old cars got flooded.

A flooded car would be detailed from front to back prior to sale ( and they are sold of course)

You may find it by having it inspected closely for things hidden under the car. But then some small things go wrong with most used cars, I know one that the transmission went out on day two of owning it. I have never known any new cars that did not have several things to fix in first few months

What was the mileage? I would doubt that it was a flood damaged vehicle, because it would take a lot longer to make saleable then the dealer would have had.

Did you get a CarFax report on it?

No because it was a new car, 2013. Mileage 27 miles

While it could be damage in storage, I don't think you have to worry about it.

The difference between the odor of garbage and a new car smell are about as far apart on the odor scale as you can get.
I remember the first car I purchased with a remote button for trunk opening. I thought the mechanism was defective until I realized that the trunk button had to be held down for a second or two, not just a quick press and release. Could this have been a factor?

You were right. By keeing my finger on the button a little longer, the trunk opened
