I'm desperate to find the name of an old black and white romantic movie I saw on television several years ago. It was set in England. The two main characters are a wounded (and possibly blind) American soldier (WWII, I think) and a young English woman who works as a domestic worker. The plot begins with the American soldier and his American fiancée going to England and staying in a cottage. I think the trip occurred immediately before the soldier had to report for service. The English woman is helping the caretaker/housekeeper. She is unattractive/ugly. Later, the American soldier returns to the cottage by himself. The wedding has been cancelled because he has become disfigured in the war, or he was blinded. He stays in his room in the cottage avoiding people, even the domestic help. Once again, the young woman provides housekeeping services in the cottage. Gradually, the soldier and the English woman begin to become interested in each other, and they both see the other as beautiful/handsome. They fall in love. It is only when the outside world intrudes that they see each other as others see them--ugly/disfigured. In the end, they choose to see the beauty the other person, the beloved. It is a very moving movie, and I recall the title seemed to go with the plot, but I have been looking for almost 5 years for the name and cannot find anyone who has seen it. I will be so grateful if anyone can help me. Thank you so much.
