Putting up a ceiling fan, unsure what to do with the green. I live in an older home and there is no bare wire at the box.

Not uncommon in older homes. Test between the box and the black hot wire to see if the box is grounded. If the box is grounded you can connect the green wire to that , if no then just put a wire nut on the greeen wire. The grounding of a ceiling fan is not critical
