Hi,

I have a raised lump (it's not small) on the anterior wall of my vagina. I first noticed it when I was 16 (3.5 years ago), when I first started using tampons (it got in the way during insertion, and still does so I can't insert my tampons in very far/ straight). I am still a virgin. I went to see a doctor about 2 years ago about it, and the doctor digitally examined me, but I was told it was 'just a muscle', and she refused to give me a pelvic exam because I was not sexually active. I was to embarrassed to seek help again after that.

My mum had to have a fibroid surgically removed from her uterus and has been diagnosed with endometriosis, so hence I am wondering if this is something similar.

I started my period at age 10, and was put on the pill at 11 due to excessively heavy and irregular periods.

I have noticed recently that it seems to have gotten bigger, and I am getting stabbing pains in my abdoment at random intervals (nowhere near my periods), and have had markedly increased pain during my periods over the last four or five months. I saw my GP who prescribed me naproxen. I didn't mention the lump.

Do I need to get this investigated further? I am so wary that I will have it dismissed again.

Well, the lump could just be your normal anatomy. Some women get cramping when they ovulate as well as during their periods, so that could be why you have the pain. But you seem to have a gut feeling something is wrong, so I would trust that and call the doctor back. Make an appointment for a full exam and tell her that you want a full exam, if for no other reason than to put your concerns to rest.
