I'm 22 with no job experience or college what so ever. The main reason was because I was obese, and have very low self esteem, I didn't even bother. Now, I'm still obese and myself esteem has grown some but it's still too low. But I really need a job now. I'm so tired of having no money, and haven't had new clothes in years it's pathetic and depressing. So what can I do to get a job now? I have no experience in anything and right now my self-worth is plummeting ever second I'm without a job. What the heck do I put on a resume? What the heck do I wear? How do I get the confidence to actually market myself and get a job when I constantly feel like I have nothing to offer a company or anyone? Should I lie? Sorry for all the questions.

By the way I don't have a drivers license or a car.

Are you in a place where you can walk to work? If so, what businesses or places are nearby?

Do you live at home?

What have you been doing since high school?

(I help people job hunt and build their resumes, so stick with me.)

Ehh, well I'm not really sure. I don't really go outside and walk around. Yes I live at home and have really done nothing since high school. I know it's pathetic sorry.

Yes I am in town and I guess I would get a job online. I live in Milwaukee.

Yes I see a bus stop near my house when I look outside.

Is there a reason you can't or won't go outside?

Yes I see a bus stop near my house when I look outside.

I would get a check-up at your doctor first. Then, go to a public library and look up jobs in your area on the Internet. It will get you out of the house. Find a few that look interesting and apply for them.

No, I don't think so. I really don't like going outside being around people make me very uncomfortable and since I never had a job I guess I never thought I needed too or had a reason.

There are no online jobs.

Why have your parents allowed this to go on with you hiding in your room?

I can't do the doctor thing my parents nor I can afford that. So when I apply for jobs what do I put down for work history? I put NONE I never heard back from anyone.

Do your parents ever comment on this situation? Do they both work?

What do you do all day? Gaming? Eating? Sleeping?

There are health clinics in most areas that can help you. You can afford a computer and Internet access, so I believe you can go to a clinic. Do your parents work?

They don't really comment about my situation. I don't think they care as long as I don't bother them about money. My mother works everyday and my father only works on the weekends.

I mostly just sleep and eat now and go online. I guess I've just given up on myself after high school.

Ask your mom if she has health insurance and if you are covered.

What jobs do they have?

You're right.. I've been so lazy and hopeless it's no excuse I'm such a failure. I failed them both.

No one (except you!) said that!

Where did this attitude come from?

Ask your mom if she has health insurance and if you are covered.

What jobs do they have?

My daddy is a DJ and my mom is a factory worker. She isn't covered nor is my father.

I asked you to see a doctor. No one said you were a failure. If your parents work, like Wondergirl said, they may have insurance. Ask them. Get a physical to rule out any health issues.

I asked both of them they don't have health insurance.

You would job hunt and also apply for a library job.

Ok, then look up where your nearest free clinic is located. A health issue may be the reason you feel the way you do. Get some help. You are reaching out now, so that is a start. There are job agencies that help place people in jobs. This time of year there are temporary holiday positions.

I will say this on clothes, I have not bought a new shirt or pant in 20 years, I buy all of my clothes at the thrift store, goodwill or salvation army. I doubt I have any one piece of clothes that cost over 3 dollars for each, Most are from the 5 dollar bag sales.

And I am dressed great. Even including nice suits.

Next you need to start doing things on your own, someone is not always going to be there to go with you.

Also you need to start going location to location filling in applications, stores, McDonalds and the such. With no work history and no college, not many need for a resume, most of the places you will be applying will be using applications.

Ask your mother if she can keep an eye out for an entry level job for you at her factory. You could commute with her!

Ask your father if you can help him find and catalog music for him, for free, as a contribution to the household. Maybe even enter it into the computer, such as in Open Office (free version of Excel). With him home all week, you two could work together.

Do work around the house (which I'll bet you do already) to make yourself feel better too. As a young person you can be helpful to parents in many ways, and gain some self esteem. Even finding coupons for groceries online is a way to 'work.' Some of the biggest coupons are found by going directly to a company's website.

Your going to have to start at the bottom,
Apply for everything you can find,
No job is beneath you.

Try to spin things to make you appear in a better light

e.g. if you don't have anything to fill you time with at the momet.

You are available to work any shift, even night shifts.
