For auto types, I was thinking of buying a new car of the most sold model and thinking of selling all the parts on line, E-Bay, Craigslist, and all the other auto part online sales. I was wondering if you thought that this is a feasible plan. Thanks for all replies

It's a risky and hard way to try and make a living. Most new aftermarket parts, which will often come with a lifetime warranty, will be cheaper. Not really feasible. When all is said and done, you will likely loose money--especially when you factor in the opportunity cost.

You will have to to all the labor to disassemble the car. Do you think someone in CA would buy an engine from someone in NY and ship it cross country? Doubt it. What I have done is lowball parts from Craigslist and sell them on Ebay.

Easy money. Mirrors are big sellers. Bought an Acura mirror for $5 and sold for $45. Garage sales are great too. PS Always enjoy your insightful answers, I'm an 72 yo gearhead. Ex SCCA. NHRA etc.

That makes a lot of sense, to me. New side mirrors, even for a Civic, run $250. Much less risk than trying to cannibalize a new car and sell it for parts.

Thanks for the answer. Always heard it was about 3X's the cost for a car if you were to buy them as parts. Just trying to figure how to make some extra money online after I retire. Don't want to do phyical work. Knees, back shot. That's why I retired.

If you are near a Goodwill, Salvation Army etc, go on senior day and search for treasures. Be surprised what you can find. Just bought a Corvette restoration guide for $1.50 and sold on Ebay for $20. Have found Waterford crystal, antique tools and other items for a profitable resale on Craigslist or Ebay.
