My 1988 plymouth caravalle starts then dies a couple times then will go into gear and drive but when going 50 to 60 miles per hour will arc then start losing speed even though the gas pedal is pressed down.

I have changed the ignition switch and fuel filter. Can the problem be spark plugs/wires?

Remove the spark plugs and check each cylinder's compression. If the readings are okay, replace the spark plugs (Champion only) and plug wires.
