By using 2X4s and either make wooden stakes or buying some metal stakes.

Remove the dirt down a couple of inches, 3" wider than the walk. Stake in 2x4 or 1x4 and anchor securely. The dirt will help hold the form. Pour the walk and strike off the top at the form level. Float the concrete in an hour or two. Strike control joints every 6-8 ft. Lightly broom surface.
