The word marry means to join together. Two things or people become connected and can't be pulled apart. How did it get so warped? If you ask someone to marry you or accept that offer, you are saying "I and everything about me belongs to you forever... How does a third person fit?

Why are you asking this? Is there a problem in your marriage?

A third person doesn't fit in.

Fifty years ago getting a divorce was frowned upon, and not an easy thing to do. It left a stigma on you and your family. Divorce wasn't that common. Many people stayed in their marriages because they didn't want the stigma of divorce.

Nowadays divorce is very common. There is no longer as large a stigma attached to divorce. In fact, most children grow up in a single parent household, or only see their father, or mother, every second weekend. Divorce is very common now.

Many people jump into marriage without being prepared to face all the challenges that come with it. Combining two lives, living together, sharing everything, it's not easy. Love isn't enough to sustain a marriage.

A lot of young people get married thinking that if it doesn't work out, they'll just get divorced and find someone else. A lot of couples cheat if things get too difficult, instead of talking things out or seeking marriage counseling.

A marriage that lasts forever is becoming a very rare thing in today's world. People just aren't willing to put in the work any more.
