I am being charged for the theft of a motor vehicle . I can't afford a lawyer , but based on my income I'm not eligible for leagal aid . Also I'm currently in a camp working my date I fly back home is the 20th of nov late at night my first court appearance is early in the day on the 20 th of nov so I won't be able to personally attend . What can I do ? This court date is to determine how I want to proceed , guilty not guilty etc .

You will have to attend or be held in contempt. And a warrant issued for your arrest.

I think you had better find out how to afford a lawyer.

Where did the theft take place?

If you can't 'personally' attend, then you have to find a lawyer. Better start working on that.

You change flight dates and get there on time.

If not, when you arrive, there will be a warrant for your arrest and most likely no bail, since you failed to appear. Plus failure to appear charges.

This is not shoplifting, you need to change your plans and be there.

Next you had better get an attorney and change your attitude about this, or you will do 5 to 10 years in prison
