My cat just turned 2 years in Dec of 2004. I have had her since she was a couple weeks old. I didn't have to buy her, the kittens were given out for free, so I had no information on the cat's parents. When she was almost 1 year I moved from Louisiana(where I got her) to Rhode Island, where we are living now. After a couple months of living here, that's when I began to notice she was DIFFERENT. She couldn't jump as well as she could before, run as well, walk or even and most importantly, go to the bathroom as well.
So I took her to couple different vets which they all did their tests and gave her their dose of medication, but nothing seemed to work. Finally, a vet told me that it was most likely a brain disfunction that was given to her by her mother which most likely had distemper. It is called cerebrial disorder. She has all of the symptoms plus some. No matter what I do to try to litter box train her, she will still go ALL over the house. We try to put her outside, to see if she likes that better, but as soon as the weather changed to cold, she refuses to go out. The vets told me there is nothing I can do for her, the symptoms will probably stay the same throughout her years and that she is not in any pain.
The reason I am writing to you is that I would like to get more information about this disorder. Find out how I can make life easier on her and on me. Please help me cause I've hit the end of the road with answers.

Unfortunately, I can't be much help on this. We have never experienced this at our clinic. What exactly did the vet call the condition? Was it Hydranencephaly?

Hydranencephaly can be caused by exposure to the feline panleukopenia virus in-utero. If that is the case, the mother cat was either exposed to the virus or was vaccinated while pregnant with a modified live vaccine.

I looked this up online but if this is not it, let me know.

Giving your cat some brain enhancing food such as Hill's Science Diet Advance Protection adult might help as it contains high levels of antioxidants.
