Whitening strips use peroxide, can this affect or create cold sores or fever blisters?

I don't see how the peroxide could cause cold sores or fever blisters. They are usually caused by a virus. Our own bodies produce hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a byproduct of metabolism. It is simply a water molecule with an extra oxygen atom attached.
Tooth strips and whiteners with hydrogen peroxide work because when exposed to light, heat or organic matierials, it releases extra oxygen. (Bubbles!! ):p
