The refrigerator side of my side by side quits every 3 months or so. The freezer side continues working. I unplug and replug but this doesn't help immediately. Then the next day it is working again. Very frustraing, and I'm losing food. Help?

Are the condenser coils clean? Unplug it and pull out from wall and remove rear cover and spray down coils with spray cleaner. Then get a water hose and spray off coils with spray of water until clean. Make sure to clean the fan, too. Oil the motor with some good oil. Also, check the inside fan and clean the inside coils, too. See how it works after putting back cover on ) Never run it with cover off or it will not work.

Thanks Dr. Tom. We have cleaned the coils, and my wife has just informed me that a repairman came by when I was out of town and told her that when the freezer needs a lot of power, it shuts off power to the fridge side. However, he didn't seem to know how to fix it. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Thanks, Bruce

I do not know your exact model, but because the new R-134a is so much less efficient than the old R-12 before the Dems had it outlawed, the new refrigerators have such valves to try to keep the efficiency high enough. The most important thing you can do is to keep the coils clean. Were the coils dirty before you cleaned them? If so, it explains your problem.
