Hi, my question is regarding my old account with Capital One Services. Under Pay Status: It is listed as <Charged Off as Bad Debt>, then under Remark: >Settled - less than full balance< I had no choice at that time, but to accept their offer and pay it off as stated above. Date Opened: 4/1999, Date Closed: 11/2003 and Date Paid: 11/2003, TransUnion shows it is to be removed on 3/2009. Would I stir up any problems if I sent them a letter asking that they change the Pay Status: to >Settled - less than full balance<, this seems a little nicer than showing as <Charged Off as Bad Debt>. This Charge off will be four years old this November, how does this affect me in getting new credit now? To anyone out there my husband and I have had the best of luck with all of the major and no so major reporting credit bureaus in having items removed from our credit reports. If you do your homework online and do some digging you will be able to locate phone and fax numbers for the three big credit bureaus. It is a lot nicer to talk to a person, than to have to deal with someone using the U.S. mail. Just remember to be extra kind (treat them like you would like to be treated) and these people will help you as much as they can. Also make sure that you have all the contact information to back up your request from the company you want help in getting removed. 1) Company name, address, city, state and zip code, 2) Person you spoke to and title, 3) Your account number with that company, 4) All other documentation you have to mail or fax to the credit bureaus. Thank you for your help, lilkit2
