I have a Simmons single handle shower/tub. I replaced the valve. I also replaced the diverter, but the water will not come out of the shower. What do I do now?

I replaced the valve. B y that you mean the shower valve, Correct?

the water will not come out of the shower. The water will come out of the spout but not the shower head. Am I right so far? Sorry to ask so many questions but your post could have been read several ways and I wanted to be sure before I answered,
If that's the case the first thing I'd do is remove the shower head and turn the shower on. If get a stream the shower head's clogged. Good luck, Tom

So you didn't actually replace the valve body, just the internal parts (cartridges etc)? There may still be hope here. One thing you can do is leave everything like it is, but swap out the tub spout for one with a diverter. Then clean or replace the shower head and use the diverter on the wall and the diverter on the tub spout to make the shower head at full stream. Not exactly the professional way to do it, but it does work. Just have to remember to put the wall diverter in the shower position then pull the diverter on the tub spout and you should be good to go until you get around to replacing the complete shower valve.

However this is assuming the diverter was installed correctly. You may want to recheck the install of the diverter with the instruction handy to avoid using my previous advice.

The valve is the mixing valve (ta-10). The diverter is not on the tub spout. It is right below the mixing
Valve on the valve assembly.
When the diverter lever is in the 8 o'clock position water comes out of the tub. When the lever its in the 6 o'clock position water comes out of the tub and shower but with low shower pressure. When the lever is turned to the 4 o'clock position both the shower and tub stop flowing water.

The diverter was installed correctly according to the diagram of the valve from symmons.
I was told that the diverer has never worked correctly since the entire valve assembly was installed a few years ago. Is is possible it is put in "backwards" and I should install the diverter upside down?

I would certainly give it a try. Nothing to lose but a bit of time. Please let me know the outcome. The nice part is, you don't have to shut the main water off to work on the diverter, as it is fed from the main shower valve.

What is the difference between TA-25A and TA-25B diverter? Could the wrong diverter have been installed before? How do I determine which part is needed for my valve?

Okay, Time to be honest. Im really not familiar with the part numbers of components with that valve. Without seeing and being able to put my hands on the assembly, Im not sure I will be able to be of much more assistance here. You seem to have the right thought process, so just do some experimenting and see what happens (just the simple stuff, you know?) Please keep me posted to your progress. I may learn a thing or two here, with any luck.

It was the diverter part, the wrong one was installed. When I was informed that the valve never worked correctly, I got suspicious. I replaced the existing one with the same part TA-25B. I noticed on the spec. drawing that there were 2 different part numbers. The TA-25B, which apparently is a tub only or shower only diverter valve and the TA-25A is for the tub and shower combo. The plumber installed the TA-25B, the tub only diverter. That is why the water stopped when the diverter was in the shower position. I installed the TA-25A and now every thing works fine.

Easy way to distinguish if a person has the correct Symmons diverter spindle is:

WHITE replacement spindle = tub and shower valve

BLACK replacement spindle = shower only valve!
