View Full Version : My daughter forged my signature on her rental agreement.

I co-signed a rental agreement for my daughter the first year she moved in. She remained at the apt for 2 more years and signed my signature to subsequent rental agreements. I found out after the collection agency contacted me for past payments. I spoke to the manager at the apartments and received copies of the signatures... to which the manager stated she could clearly see that the last 2 signatures were not mine. The rental agreement was supposed to be signed in the office with an office manager. This has been now placed on my credit report and I need a letter from the apartment complex to clear it from that report. This happened since May 2012 and I am still waiting on the letter from the apartment complex. I would like to know if I have any legal recourse.

If the apartment complex will not clear this up, dispute it in writing with the credit agencies, showing them proof. They may require that you file a police report and report the daughter for ID fraud.

Fr Chuck,
Thank you very much. More than likely I will have to go the route of disputing with the credit agencies. I was afraid that I may have to report my daughter but if she can do it to me she may very likely do it to someone else. Again, my thanks

WIthout a police report... the credit agencies are going to rightfully assume it really was your signature... and that would make the debt a valid one.
No easy way out of this... someone is going to end up under the bus so to speak. Since its family... its a very tough choice to make. I wouldn't really wish having to be in that position on most people.
