Do they make a battery back up system for a sump pump that you can just plug your existing 3 prong 110 sump pump into. I already have a sump pump connected to 110. I would just like a back up in case the power goes out.

Go to to a computer store... use one like they have for computers... the bigger the better in this case... but it might be cheaper to buy a sump pump that uses a deep cycle battery.

According to some literature sent to me yesterday, there are some power inverters available that are capable of powering a sump pump. The type described in the literature requires being powered by an automobile battery and I assume that the engine must be running while the load is being applied to avoid draining the battery. The models tested were PowerBright brand. The largest model was estimated to cost $ 180.

Definitely cheaper to purchase a battery back up sump pump, but they do make an inverter specifically for sump pumps that sells for around $550.00 or so (plus the cost of the deep cycle battery)... call any local plumbing supply store or find one online by googling sump pump inverter. You could also probably use the large computer inveters Smoothy is talking about, but I can't speak to that directly.

The only real advantages I see to the inverter is less labor to install all AND you get to use the USUALLY larger, stronger existing sump pump instead of the smaller pumps that come with the battery back up pump systems.

In most cases, the battery needs to be a MARINE DEEP CYCLE #27 or #31 battery for these. Automobile batteries are not usually acceptable for this application.

In addition to the above advices: I would contact pump manufacturer. I am sure they either sell you one or tell you where to go to purchase one. Milo
