Well on the positive side, we should have lots of "home repair" questions in a few days when internet goes back up.

How many of our experts live in the prime danger zone?

What happens in the US stays in the US. ;)

Actually, I haven't been keeping up to date with the US, there's been too much election stuff, and I've lost interest.

Now that I know that mother nature is being mean, I hope all our friends are safe and sound. I also you keep that stuff on your side of the border. ;)

I added her name. (I just talked with my brother who lives near her -- mostly rain and wind came their way, so I think she is okay weatherwise, but may have trees down, etc.)

I am about an hour from the coast. We are wet and slightly wind-blown (and now cold), but nothing major.

LadySam is down here in North Carolina, but I think she is closer to the middle of the state. I don't know how they are doing. Most of the state is still getting some rain and winds. Part of it is getting ice and snow. Unfortunately, it really isn't all that strange for NC.

I have forgotten where Sariss is located but I thought she was NY state.
It looks like the storm went west of Bella.

WG, looking at the radar images, it looks like it might even affect Chicago. That would put you and Stringer in the path, too.

Southeast ontario, where I am, got high winds last night, possibly 80k or so. Very little rain, but you could actually see it coming from the south across lake ontario at us, which is the way they said it would approach.

Rain off and on today, some trees down in town.

So far here, just rain and cold, some wind but nothing to worry about.
The NC coast took a nice hit this past weekend I think.
Hope everyone stays safe.

I talked to my family in NS, NB and PEI. Mainly rain and winds. I also have a niece in Toronto and they got it worse. One lady was killed by a sign (I think that is what it was) falling on her. Bad storm all around.
For pet owners shelters on Facebook are listing where you can go with your pets if you have to seek shelter. NYC has a law during times like this no taxi, bus, subway etc can refuse to take you if you have your pets leashed or crated.
Please everyone stay safe and follow your local governments advice. Thank you to all first responders who are helping the people and pets!

I was just about to post. Power went out at 6:50 PM Monday. This is the first I was able to get on the Net since then. Company had no Net until just a few minutes ago.

No damage to home or family, but I don't expect power to be restored until next week. So I will have limited time online until then.

Thanks for thinking about me.

P.S. Judy should be OK, the storm veered back East so the Buffalo area received just a glancing blow.

We had a thunderstorm to end all thunderstorms last night at 1:30 a.m. Whole family was up, it lasted over an hour. And the torrential rain that came with it. Right now it's nice, perfect for the kids tonight.

Good to hear from you Scott.
Shame about the power, but that's what cell phones are for ;)

With more than 30% of cell phone towers either down or without power, cell phone service has been spotty at best. Besides, I don't have a phone with a data plan. So unless I have a WiFi connection, I'm incommunicado.

So glad to hear you're okay Scott. I was out of the loop until Ben posted this thread, now I'm watching the news and all that's going on. Looks horrific.

We got a good dump of snow yesterday, but compared to what you're going through, it's nothing to complain about.

Glad you're safe. Stay that way. :)

It isn't over yet. More to come for northern Ontario, snow and freezing rain in Wawa, Ontario. En.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wawa,_Ontario

Northern Ontario is a little more remote then you can imagine if you are even from NYS.
Bad weather happens there quite often, starting about now. It is the Algoma steel area that supplies much of the north american continent's metal; copper, uranimum, all precious metals and yes diamond mining.

I just got a small ray of hope. Looks like the problem in my area may be due to a single problem affecting 2400 households. If that's the case, power should be restored sooner than later.

I could understand how Alty didn't know. She is western Canada, not worried at that time or place by the effects.
However Toronto area and east were in the direct path of rain and hi winds after it doglegged and came across lake Ontario. After that it went northeast.

Maybe you guys should acquaint yourselves with our topography.

:)

Most people think that Canada is pretty small. In fact, one of my cousins in Germany wrote to me a few years ago all excited, asking if he could stay with us for 2 years because he got a job offer in Toronto. He thought that he could easily commute to Toronto from my place.

Toronto is a 5 hour flight from where I live.

Canada is a big country, and even though we do get wind of worldwide news, sometimes it takes a bit longer to find out what's going on with our US neighbors, or even our other Canadian neighbors.

Truth told, I don't watch the news. I tend to steer clear of that depressing stuff. I don't watch a lot of TV period.

But I will agree that at times, I am hard work. But that's why I'm interesting and special (don't even say it, I didn't mean that kind of special!) ;)

On a side note, and I bet you don't know this, there is now enough snow in my yard to build an igloo. Did you know that? No? Well, join me under the rock. ;)

Day 9! No power yet and not likely to see a spark for a few more days. There are wires on the ground behind my house and I don't see them working on them until after the storm due today passes. So much for the promise to restore by 11pm 11/7.

I have never felt so powerless in my life! There is no one I can call or talk to who can (or will) give me any information or do anything for me.

I know there are people worse off than us, but that just doesn't help anymore when I feel that LIPA and so many others in the bureaucracy don't give a damn about us.
