Sometimes hypnotherapy works for suppressed memory therapy. Just make sure you check out all the qualifications, ask for references, and verify credentials.

Cognitive behavioral therapy focused on trauma wrtitten about by Judith Cohen PH.D, has been very effective in working with past trauma of any kind. This type of therapy assists the client with recalling the trauma through art or story telling. The next step is the victim and their family needs to be educated about trauma response, regarding feelings thoughts and behaviors that have resulted due to the trauma. Any distortions of thinking are challenged and healthier reponses to past trauma are taught to the client. Empowerment in the here and now, so the client willl no longer feel like a victim is the goal of treatment. Recall of trauma is not enough, especially in unskilled hands. You need someome skilled in helping the traumatized person heal from the past while learning new coping skills to deal with their present life..
