If I want to conceive on January 2013 is it safe for me to take vitamin A 7,000 i.u per tablet thrice a day for acne healing? Is it the same with issotane or accutane that you cannot take if you want to conceive? Is it also OK to take it with folic because my ob-gynae prescribed me to take folic acid 5mg once a day to prepare me for concieving. Thank you.

As with any vitamin supplement, your body discards what it doesn't need; so you can take that amount, 7000 iu but you may not need it. No, do not take accutane before or after pregnancy, or any other prescription for acne, but your dermatologist will ask if you are pregnant or planning to conceive before recommending anything.

Here is a crash course on vitamin A; if there is a search feature, enter vitamin A, top right hand corner.

2100 units of A are safe for any woman over 19 (just remember it's a FAT soluble vitamin, so excess stays in the body), and the folic acid is safe to take with it. But I won't try to answer to the acne medications. Those you should discuss with the doctor giving them to you! Accutane has been taken off the US market. It's a retinoid, and vitamin A is retinol, and I don't know if you should take both or not. I wouldn't.

An all around healthy diet is what is most important.
Keep your hair away from your face and wash your face very gently very often but with only tiny amounts of special soap, with lots of rinsing, and just pat dry.
If you want to tell us what you typically eat each day, we can discuss that.

I just bought the vitamin a over the counter. Now I'm puzzled if it is safe to take it?
