I went to my dental hygenist for my semi-annual cleaning, prior to the cleaning she wanted to verify my current medication. I am not prescribed anything by my dentist. I should mention my dentists office is within a medical clinic however the records are separate from the physical/mental health records.

After a previous cleaning I requested my treatment plan and in error the receptionist handed me my dental records. The records disclosed that this hygenist entering under remarks "Pt "VERY CHATTY!! " (which is difficult when your having your teeth cleaned) Therefore I am very uncomfortable with this person knowing anything about me especially what med's I am taking.

ANY medical provider needs a complete history. They need to be aware in case of possible interaction issues.

I don't see any HIPAA violation here.

Your dentist does need to know all meds you take. It's vital.
I'm confused by what is bothering you other than the unnecessary remark in the file. Why would that mean that you wouldn't want that person to know what you are taking?
