Bipolar disorder runs in my family, and when I was much younger I was tested. My doctor said that I did not have it, but recently I have been experiencing some incredibly high highs followed by some incredibly low lows, with very little in between. I can't really explain any of these vast changes in mood, so I was wondering if it was possible to develop Bipolar Disorder later in life? And if not, is there any way to explain my mood swings?

If this is any factor, they are not menstrual cycle mood swings.

Bipolar disorder usually manifests itself in the late teens or early twenties.

How old are you?

I'm seventeen.

And my mother had me tested when I was a toddler, at least that's what she told me. I don't know how doctors test for things like that, so I don't even know if it's possible.

If it runs in the family, I suppose it's possible. I would be very careful to be in regular touch with a doctor who can assess your moods over time.

Keep a daily journal.

Toddlers don't become bipolar.
