We just purchased a new(old) house.
I will be installing a new metal door unit (kitchen to carport)
The floor material in kitchen is ceramic tile.

The existing door was installed on top of the tile, and looks like a 3/8 to 1/2" shim was placed on the exterior under threshold.

I removed the door's interior top trim to get an idea on header height.

From my initial measurements, it seems the tile may have to be removed for the new door to fit.

So my question... what's the best way to remove those 5 or 6 ceramic tiles around the door ?

What is the rough opening required for the door and what do you measure from header to ceramic floor? 1/2 inch should be plenty unless they had a custom door made, quite rare. Most you will get is 3/4" more. If the old threshold was shimmed, why won't the new door fit? Does the header have a bottom plate? If so, I would use a sawzall to cut the plate and install a thinner one. If you must cut the tile, use an angle grinder with a diamond blade or a multi tool with a carbide blade. Snap a chalk line and cut along the line, the tile should pry out.

My measurement from tile to header is identical to actual door unit measurement from top of jamb to bottom of jam.

I believe the doors requested rough opening is a 1/2" higher than what I have.

I've temp replaced the interior trim but I'm pretty sure there was not a bottom plate on header, so can't get anything there.

Before painting the exterior frame ... I'ved already had to trim the top of the door molding 1/2" so it will fit under the iron lintel for bricks.

Guess I will not know for sure until I pull the old one out and see what I have.

If it will make it, will be very tight... as block and mall to get in place.

Depending on the jamb construction, exterior doors have a sloped one, you may be able to trim a little off the bottom , just below the sill plate.
