View Full Version : Can Child Support Be Decreased When A Dad Remarries And Has A New Baby?

My husband and I are talking about having a baby next year. He is already a parent to a little girl and we pay $350 a month, plus half of medical expenses, plus half of activities that she wants to do. Her mom is also remarried and has taken on a step daughter, and has also had a new baby. My question is, is it possible to have the child support lowered (but still pay half of medical and half of activities) when we have a baby to help us with our expense towards him/her?

They make more money than we do and we are not sure if the new husband pays child support on his child (is that possible to find out?). And by no means am I saying "terminate" child support, he is responsible for his daughter and I fully support that, but I do feel like we have the right to have a family of our own as well and be able to care for our own needs.

Some of you may think or say "Well if he can't afford to support another kid then he shouldn't have one"... Let me defend myself and him, it has been a DREAM of mine to be a mom and it is not right for anyone to say I shouldn't be allowed to experience that.

Another thing, Arkansas is the state we live in, I know these things vary state to state.

Check these Child support calculators:

However, having another child will probably not affect his support obligation. Having another child is a choice, not an involuntary occurrence.
