I read it takes almost two years to get a civil case into court and I don't believe that to be true. An acquaintance of mine has a BMW car that is in my name and not pd for. He was to make the pmts and he only made a few but won't return the car and hides out. This has been going on for over six years. Pmt is still being sought. I guess all I can do is let a judgment be filed against me, I don't have any money to offer for a settlement. The loan is 35 grand and another 5 grand in attorney fees per the collector who called me. They have searched for this car over the years and this man is elusive and at times leaves the country. I am screwed. He is a thief. Thanks

Some civil cases can take 10 years, my workers comp case took almost 10 years to get to trial. I had a law suit that took 3 years.
Many times it depends on if one side is fighting it, they can pospone, file motions that take time to respond to and more.
Most normal cases will get into court in 3 to 6 months.

How long a case takes to get to court depends on the nature of the case and the jurisdiction you are in.
But I am not sure what that has to do with litigation concerning the car for which OP co-signed. If I was OP, I would repossess the car, sell it, and try to settle with the plaintiff.

If the car is in your name, then report it to the police as stolen.
