I need to put two electric switches on opposite sides of a 3-1/2" stud wall on the same stud, preferably at the same height. Is there a junction box made that can fit this case? What is it called? Perhaps double-sided or backless? I can't seem to find one by searching, but I know that I have at least one in my home on a wall.

Why not use an old work box and you can move them an inch or two. Why to they have to be the same height?

They used to be available, but I haven't seen them for sale in many years.

Are the walls open? Or sheetrocked?

Really just for aesthetics, No huge deal to shift them. Thought it would be easier to just use one junction box

Walls are currently open. It seemed to me that I have seen them before also.

You are using the term "junction " box. Do you mean switch or junction? Can't put a junction box in a closed up wall. They do make a nail on utility box that will go back to back but it is very hard to get more than a single 14/2 in it.

I do mean switch box. The one I have in my home looks like 4" x 4" x 3-1/2" with a single extension on one side to fit the dry wall and a double on the other side of the wall for a total of three switches. All are 14/2. I am putting in a four-way switch on one side and a single pole on the other.

I am confused about the box you have. Can you post a picture?
