I am in the process of possibly buying a small farm in Kentucky. The main water line is about 2000-3000 feet to where I would like to build a home. It is just dirt, no asphalt to dig up; and I am looking at a 2" pipe. Thank you for your help.

Call 3 plumbers for estimates. Hard to give you an idea without seeing it. If it is a very simple trench in good soil, you can rent a trencher and put the pipe in yourself and have a plumber do the hookup.

Thank you for your help. But, no idea, roughly, of per foot cost?

Rough guess -$2-5 per foot. You have equipment cost, time and material cost. Remember, you are talking 1/2 mile, not across the street. A well may be cheaper. I will assume you are on septic.

no idea, roughly, of per foot cost? Sure! We can give you the price per foot but we need more information first.
Union or non union plumbers and hourly wage for each.
Depth of trench? Dug by hack hoe? Cost of back hoe?
Material cost for job?
And last 2000 to 3000 feet tells us nothing. How long is the run?
Furnish us with all those figures and we'll come up with a ballpark estimate. If you can't do that I suggest you take Brians advice and get three estimates. Good luck. Tom

Thanks for your time, Brian and Tom. I guess I need more information. Back to the drawing board!
