I had a light switch n GFI combo and it quit working for some reason so I changed it to a gang box and put a light switch and a GFI outlet in but for some reason when I turn the lights on it keeps tripping the GFI. I don't know if this matters but if there is no bulbs in the light and you turn the switch on it doesn't trip the GFI as soon as you put a bulb in the GFI trips. The way I wired it is like this. I ran a neutral wire from the line side of the GFI and caught the lights neutral and the hots neutral line and wired nutted them then I took the grounds (1from outlet,1from switch, and both from the wires and nutted those together. I jumped a hot line from the load side of the GFI to the switch and did nothing with the neutral on the load side of the GFI. Can any one help me figure out what's wrong here Thanks!

I meant to ask, if the wiring sounds right could my light ficture went bad. I did double check the lights wiring to make sure it was OK only thing I did to make sure was grounded the lights ground. The lights come on for less then a second then the GFI trips. THANKS AGAIN!!

Learn what a pigtail is, it cuts down on brainfarts. Standard outlet is not a GFCI, you don't wire them the same.
