I have removed the drain and want to install the new one but I have a chip around the or crack around the drain hole on the tub because was using a screwdriver to pry it up before I found out it spins out. Will the putty work? Or do I need to patch it?
I can see the rubber under the tub at the chipped part of the tub hole. What should I do?

Are those dark spots where you used the screwdriver? Back to you. Tom

Looks like a Fiberglass tub. You will probably need to get a fiberglass repair kit to fill the holes. Then you can use the plumbers putty.

Ouch, that's pretty rough. Definitely will need a fiberglass repair kit here. It will certainly take some time and skill to get this particular portion of the tub fixed correctly. If you have ever thought about getting a new tub, now would be the time. If that's not an option, just do your best to make the area look like it just came from the factory. You will need good access from the bottom of the drain to make the repair work.

Yes the dark spots are where the screwdriver messed it up(Tom). I will have to do a fiberglass kit. Thanks for the help everyone!
