I recently posted here about being replaced in my position at my temp job. Since then, the hiring manager has finally, spoken to me and addressed the issue. She said that HR posted the job prematurely. What is happening is that they are turning my job into a permanent part-time position. Two more hours would be added on , and I would have to be there 5 days a week, 4 hours each day, as opposed to the 3 days, 6 hours a day, that I am currently working. I have a pretty good relationship with the hiring manager, and even though she tried to persuade me to apply for this position, she also said that she would help advise me even if my decision was to apply to another position in the company.

I am hesitant about applying to this new position, even though I don't have any other prospects. It doesn't even start until January, because the budget is still being worked out. My department has a budget for temps, and I believe they're waiting to get approval to turn the temp position to a permanent position, only beause of the addition in pay (2 extra hrs). I plan on applying to this position, however, there is another position in the company, in a different department, that is full-time that I am more interested in applying to.

Is is wise to apply to both jobs? I mean once the Head of HR sees that I have applications for both positions, won't that look bad on my part, like I can' t make up my mind?

Depends on the company and/or the manager, to me it shows you want a job and would take either.

Only you know the person and the corporate structure as to how they would respond.
If I was the person reviewing it, I would say they really want a job here.

Ok, I see. My goal is to be happy in the position that I am doing. I think the second job is a better fit for me and my goals. Also, its full-time, and I have been struggling with this part-time paycheck for a long time.

I went on an interview awhile ago, where I had applied to two jobs in the company. They kind of alluded to that in the interview, and I think that's part of the reason I didn' t get the position. They thought I was undecided about what I wanted to do.
