My kenmore washer #22442100 agitates but won't spin. The motor sounds like it's running o.k but the basket spins weakly or not at all. The water drains. The timer advances. The cycle ends with the cloths wet. I changed the motor coupler assembly and problem still persists. Any ideas??

Diagnostic Guide Link
I found service tech diagnostic guides (PDF format) during an online search. This includes instructions on putting the dryer into test mode in order to check switches, etc. Here are the links:

Hi bigpapa,
The last Kenmore I worked on had similar failures you describe. The clutch/solenoid at the gear box had failed. It was a bear to get at to cure the problem. I do not have recollection of the model... sorry. Nm

Doug,
It's the PO's washer that is having problems....not the dryer. ;) nm

I got that, but that string covers all da kenmore appliances. You just got to scroll till you find it. I went through 22 pages.

Have you opened the gear box. The main plastic gear was torn up inside after 4 years of use. All parts look brand new, but when I open the gear box I found the lose pieces inside. I am looking for just the gear, but they seem to sell the whole gear box. I have seen it on eBay for $60 to $70 dollars. They say new, but I image they are rebuilt.
