Hi, I have an incandescent floor lamp in which the dimmer switch that is internal (in the pole of the lamp) never lasts for long before it goes bad. Always lasts about 6-8 months before I have to replace it . I spoke to the person at the store where I purchased the new dimmer and he told me that it goes bad because of static electricity. Can anyone tell me if that is true and if so explain it to me. Also is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening? Thanks for your help. John.

No not really, that doesn't make much sense to me. I'd contact the manufacturer if you have a manufacturer warranty, write them a letter let them know the problem and request them to replace the lamp.
