Make sure the coils are cleaned well. Dirty coils reduce the heat transfer and the compressor run more.

The first thing you want to do is to pull out the unit from the wall and unplug it. Remove back panel where you can see the condenser coils. Spray them down with cleaner and wash off with hose nozzle. Clean fan, too. Replace cover and remove cover to freezer coils. See if they are iced over. If they are then you have a defrost system failure, usually a minor problem. Defrost it well and look at the heater at the bottom of the coils. You can usually see if it is burned in two. If you cannot tell then test it with an ohm meter and if it is open replace it and the defrost terminator t-stat wired in series and clipped to the side of the coils. It's a round part with two wires coming out. Replace both and you may want to replace the defrost timer, too. You can get all of the parts for about $30. If the defrost system is bad and you do not fix it quickly it will ruin the compressor, which is what is happening now. Time is not on your side. If you fix it fast you can save having to get a new refrigerator. Here are some manuals: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8010163/GE_Profile_Side_by_Side_refrig.pdf
