My x husband was ordered to pay child support when we divorced over 20 years ago... He paid for a while but lost his job to business closing. He hasn't been able to pay since. Our son is now 25 yrs old and starting his own life. My x husband will never be able to pay up and I don't want him to lose his license (which he already has , I believe) now get put in jail.. I would like to know if I can sign some papers to say I agree to terminating this order of child support.. So he can live and I can live the rest of our lives in piece . Also for our son not to feel bad because of this. Can you help me?

You can if owed to you say the arrears have been satisfied and your no longer owed anything. Talk to the child support collection agency about it and make sure everything is agreed upon before signing any documents.

The issue here is
1 20 years ago, when he lost his job, he needed to go back to court and get amount lowered to go with his new income or lack of it.

2. he has been working somewhere for 20 years and could have paid something

3. no you can not waive it now.

You can say he has paid it in full to you and it is satisfied. But of course you will have to lie to make it happen.

There are so many things that should have been done, I have to wonder why ?
