View Full Version : Coil pack stopped firing.

I have a 1992 ford ranger 2.3 and a guy ran a wire from egr valve power wire to possitive battry post while truck was running and the coilo pack that operates the intake side of engine stopped firing. I have went from changing coil pack to changing icm still want fire,what could it be?

. Verify that the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on and goes off, when the ignition switch is turned to ON. If not, the ECM may have been damaged.

. Check all under hood and under dash fuses with a test light or multimeter--be very thorough.

. Check for codes.

. Focus on the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP), which provides the trigger signal for the ICM "switching off" current to the ground wire of the primary coil, causing amperage to go to zero. When this happens, 12 to 14 volts in the primary coil is "stepped-up" to 30,000 volts in the secondary coil. This process creates a "type" of alternating current required for the coil (step-up transformer) to work. In a properly working ICM, timing is precisely when needed to fire each spark plug. Replace the CKP, if necessary.
