I just removed my range from above my stove so that I could put in a microwave to better utilize my countertop space. I have two wires now hanging from my wall that were previously attached to other wires from the range. One is white and one is black. Can I shove these back into the hole they came out of without running the risk of a fire? I would appreciate any help.

Thank you,

Kalisa

No do not just push the wires back into the wall. Even if the circuit breaker is off, standard practice is to install the cable using a proper cable connector into a junction box, cap with wires with wire nuts or electrical tape, and cover the junction box with the proper cover plate for that box.

Leave the breaker off.

If live wires were to touch or short out inside the wall, the arc flash will cause a fire.
