We are having difficulty removing the chrome sleeve.  It doesn't seem to just pull off.  Could it just be heavily caroded on?

More details please,  The chrome tube is a stop and simply pulls out,  If you have a complain now's the time to tell me,  Back to you,  Tom

I think he is talking about the sleeve on a tub/shower valve, Tom (see image).  Here, as you know stanadyne went over to moen so their valves are almost identical.
 
Jsgartner44, you should just need to get a pair of pliers and tug on the sleeve... twist a little, too.  These things can be a bear, for sure, but they will usually come off in one piece.  If that fails to work go to home depot and look for a moen replacement sleeve (see other image)... then you can just crush this old sleeve off and replace it with the new one... ;)
