Hi
I have a problem in my shower,I have been told it is the diverter valve. When just the taps are running there are no leaks but when I pull the knob out for the shower the water leaks between the wall and into my basement. I took the wall apart behind the shower and there are no leaking pipes. The type of faucets I have are 2 control knobs and the small pull out knob for the shower these are all together in one unit.I need to know how to get that diverter valve out so I can replace the O rings as I have been told that is what the problem may be.I bought a new set of taps just in case I need to replace but this looks way to complicated for a do it yourselfer.

It is more likely that the leak is occurring at the ell in the wall where the shower arm screws into the riser pipe than at the diverter valve.
If the diverter valve leaked while the shower is being used it would also leak when the tub is being filled.

If you have an access panel on the other side of the wall, remove the panel and look to see if the water is coming from around the diverter valve or from above.
If you do not have an access panel, pull the escutcheon ring around the shower arm away from the wall, and with a flashlight, look in the wall for signs of water. If necessary use a screwdriver to open up around the shower arm to see inside the wall.
