Hi, I have 7 months old Lhasa Apso (F), she only likes Cooked chicken bones, chicken meat & chicken liver in her lunch and dinner, 2 boiled eggs in breakfast, 50 ml of milk in the morning.. I tried to introduce so many times with Rice or vegetables but she don't eat. My vet is saying if she only had chicken then in later satge it may face kidney problem.. Guys please suggest me is it true..?

Did your vet not tell you that cooked chicken bones are a big no-no and that she shouldn't have milk either, dogs don't tend to digest milk well, gives them diarrhea and chicken bones can cause problems such as splintering and causing lacerations in the digestive tract, or cause painful impactions (severe constipation) or even become foreign bodies that have to be removed surgically.
So first and foremost cut out the bones and the milk, please, it is in the best interest of your dogs health and safety.

Your dog needs to be on a balanced high quality kibble.
If she is only eating what you say then you need to get it balanced a litter better, she is getting nothing but protein it seems.
At 7 months old you've got plenty of time to turn her around and get her on the right track with her diet.
A high protein diet is not harmful to a healthy dog, but in a dog with kidney disease protein is usually restricted.
Does your dog have any kidney issues?
I would urge you to get your puppy on a good, nutritionally sound puppy food and keep her on it until her first year, then go to an adult food.

Bottom line is this, your dog already has you trained to give just what she wants, healthy dogs will not starve themselves, they will eat what is given them.
She may hold out for a bit, but she will get the picture.
That is not to say that she can't have a bit of chicken or liver with her meal, but it shouldn't make up the meal.
You have a puppy, puppies need balanced meals in order to grow properly, it ensures proper growth of the bones, joints, and organs.

Thanks a lot dear, Yes my vet told me not to give her only chicken diet it will cause kidney problem, I tried 2 days on dry food , but my baby stopped eating and lost her weight, then thot to discuss this in a forum may be.. chicken are not that much harmful as my vet told...

While dogs and puppies need protein in the diet, there are other things needed, fiber, carbs, vitamins, minerals.

I think if you are going to insist on feeding home cooked meals it would be wise for you to consult with your vet or a nationalist about requirements for puppies.
As I mentioned before, they need a well balance diet in order to grow properly.

You can't possibly get all of that from just chicken.
Her bones and joints are forming, as well as many other things right now, nervous system, endocrine system, and so on.
Lets just take Vitamin D for example, it is necessary for bone formation, nerve and muscle function.
It is not in her best interest for you to let her win this battle.
If she refuses the dry kibble, there are high quality moist puppy foods out there.

Look, the fact is you are not doing what is best for your dog. I'm sure you love your dog so you have got to do what it takes to get her on the right track so she will have a healthy long life. First, stop the milk asap - it's simply unhealthy for dogs. Buy a quality dry kibble and start mixing a little in with the chicken (not bones!) over a few weeks. It will take a little time, to get her off the chicken, but she will get there. Do not overfeed her. She will need to eat the kibble to get enough food. She might ignore it a while, eating around the kibble and even lose a few pound refusing to eat it. However, dogs DO NOT starve themselves and she will eat. Just like a toddler will throw a fit when you take a pacifier away, your dog probably will. However, you don't let the kid go to middle school with their pacifier, you let them tantrum and eventually get over it. You can do this, because it's the right thing to do. Good luck!

Thanks so much , yesterday I bought mini juniour Royal Cannie dry kibbles. But the quanity is mentioned for 6-8 kg 100 gms a day.. is it good enough... but confused.. caz 100 grams qty is less. Today on 24th my Stephy turns 8 months old with weight 6 kg.. plsadvise!

I would follow the suggested amount on the bag as a starting place for the total amount of food per day. You might want to start using half kibble, half chicken and mix it very well, so there is chicken rubbed all over the kibble at first. Are you feeding twice a day (I recommend)? If so split up the food into two smaller portions. After a week I would begin slowly reducing the amount of chicken and increasing the kibble.

I'm a little confused as to what exactly you are telling us here.
But it seems that he is eating the kibble.
Follow the feeding guide on the bag, if you feed her 2 to 3 times a day then divide the recommended daily amount into those 2 or 3 feedings.
Do you leave the food down for her all day or do you take her bowl once she has had plenty of time to eat?
I trust you are not still feeding the bones?
Now that you know she will eat the kibble, you have crossed the biggest hurdle, she will get it, you just have to be consistent with it.

Yes, She started eating RC dry kibble but with chicken only, if thr is no chicken she don't bother to eat. Than I have to put some chicken in that then only she finshed her food..
No stephy prefers to eat only 1 time in night. Her schedule is like
She have 1 boil egg aroung 10.30 am in the morning.. thn she sleep whole day.. when she wakes up at around 4.30 pm in the evening . That time she search for food but if there is chicken with the kibbles then only she eats else leave all the food..
She don't take anything whole day that's why I have to keep her food for night than she eat that around 11.30 pm or so... but again with the chicken.. only..

10:30 am + 4:30 pm + 11:30 pm= 3 feedings a day.
I'd cut out the middle feeding and do just as teachnk suggested, by slowly reducing the amount of chicken.

Don't just take it from me read the information on the dangers of feeding bones for yourself.
But you seem very determined to do exactly what you please with your dogs diet.
Your dogs needs the benefit of a healthy and SAFE diet, why do you feel the need to manipulate it?

Dairy and cooked chicken bones? Where do you live, if you don't mind me asking, country is fine. I don't know if this has been asked, but why are you only feeding human foods, or a weird variation of the BARF diet? Why not kibble?

Who told you that RC is the best dry kibble available in India? A Veterinarian? Someone else?

Royal Canin is a far better choice than the previous diet. Please drop the egg snacks and go to two meals a day with kibble and chicken. Are you boiling the kibble with the chicken? The dry kibble is good for your dogs teeth and it will make it easier to reduce the chicken in the long term. Sounds like you are making progress!

Dry natural bones are the number one cause in dogs for broken teeth ;)

Hi, In fact that breeder( from where I bought stephy), told me about RC and I started with dry kibbles.. Yes only day one I boiled kibbles with Chicken, but stopped now. Now I started mixing chicken juice ( boiled) with small amount of chicken meat with dry kibbles.

My stephy which is 8 month old, doing potty in 48 hrs, means every alternative day.
It was started, when I started feeding her RC dry kibbles mixed with Chicken Juice & 1-2 pcs of small chicken liver . Earlier I didn't noticed , thot its general but now its bothering me

Guys Please advise! Shall I take her to the vet, or its not a matter of worry.

Her Eating schedule is like, Chicken chew stick 1pcs after hair grooming, 1 steamed egg at 10.30 am, then she eat only in night at around 10.30 pm with 50 grams of RC dry Kibbles with chicken Juice.

Today morning her potty was dark black in colour and very sticky type..

She is active , play at home, go for walk and rest of time she want to sleep only, If I have to calcluate , I will say in 24hrs, only 3 hours she is awake and rest of all time she sleeps.

I wouldn't call her active if she is only awake 3 hours a day at eight months. The black sticky stool is a concern. Why are you not feeding her breakfast? Her only meal is at 10:30 at night? A puppy should be getting two meals a day. Have you tried weaning her off the chicken juice? I am unclear why she is still eating eggs. Two meals of kibble will provide a more nutritionally balanced diet and benefit her health long term. If her stools continue to be abnormal I would get to a vet.
