I am looking to connect pvc drain pipe to the cast iron stack ,which is a 2in offshoot on the main pipe, I am wanting to no if this can be done and what fittings I use?

Sure can be done. First, you'll need to support the weight of the cast iron stack using a riser clamp and some 2"x4"s... see images below.

Then you purchase a NO HUB CAST IRON 4"x2" tapped sanitary tee fitting and measure the length of the fitting and then add 1/2" to that measure and transfer that measure to the pipe.

You can only purchase the no hub cast iron fitting at a plumbing store. Purchase (2) no hub clamps at the same time and the necessary PVC pipe/fittings, cement/primer, hangers, etc. that you'll need.

Use a reciprocating saw with a DIAMOND sawzall blade (only made by Lennox) to make cuts at the supported pipe and remove the cut piece. This will take 10-15 minutes. You could also rent a cast iron snap or ratchet cutter, but I don't recommend these for homeowners as they usually only end up crushing the pipe.

Install the rubber part of the clamps onto the cast iron fitting and FLIP the rubbers back on themselves so you can insert the fitting into the stack. Slide the clamps onto the cast iron stack before installing the fitting and then after the fitting is in place and aligned, FLIP the rubbers back over and slide the clamps into place... tighten appropriately.
