Apparentally in 2000 someone got a judgement against me. I was unaware of it. Anyway, last week I got a garnishment notice from an attorney mailed to my correct address where I have lived for the past 8 years, I called and asked why I was not notified of a court date and they said notice went to a former address. How then did they, 1 week later, know my correct address? This happened in Indiana. I would like to stop the garnishment, discuss the case and find out if I DO owe the money etc. I asked if there was anything I could do and the attorney said yes but she could not advise me since she represented the collection. Any ideas?

You are not notified of the garnishment, and don't have a right to be at that court hearing.
That comes automatically after the get the judgement, so your court notice was sent in 2000 or late 1999 depending on when in 2000 the court was. That is when they got the judgement against you, After they have the judgement, they don't need to notify you any further about garnishment action till after it is done
