Both parents are disabled @ they have been divorced 10 years. The mother has been on disability for 5 years & receives a check for their son already. The father is now filing for disability & is saying he will be filing the child so he can draw a check off the child even though the child lives with the mother. Can he draw a check off his son even if the son doesn't live with him & he doesn't support him & since the mother is already drawing a check for the child? I don't see how both parents can both draw a check off the same child I think it would only go to the one the child lives with. If father can draw a check can it go directly to the child? And would it lower the check the mother gets for the child?
The boy is 16yo. Thank you
