Are these substitution or addition reactions? How can you tell and determine this? What are the products?
Trichloromethane + chlorine -->
Propene + bromine -->

Trichloromethane (C H Cl3) + chlorine --> CCL4 and HCl (substitution)
Propene (C3H6) + bromine --> C2H4CH2Br (addition)
C2H4CH2Br is called 1,2 dibromopropane See http://www.chemguide.co.uk/mechanisms/eladd/unsymbr2.html
Ethylene (C2H4) + hydrogen iodide --> C2H5 I (addition)
Ethane (C2H6) + chlorine --> C2 H5 Cl + H Cl (substitution)
I am a physicist, not a chemist, and had to look up the answers to most of these on the internet.
