I have an approx. ten yr old maytag neptune washer that has a compartment for softner liquid and /or bleach to be dispensed to washer later in cycle. Lately these compartments are not emptying out the liquid completely.. Any suggestions?

The softener is thick, eventually will plug up the tube connecting the reservoir to the tub. Open the front, remove the tube, clean it with HOT water. Replace, that should do the trick. If not, let us know...

Also, as a hint, try diluting the softener a bit w/ hot water when you use it. It won't clog up as much.
