Car is trying to run hot while driving and the fan on passenger side of car believe to be a/c fan kicks on but not the engine fan. I turn the car off and the engine fan kicks on for a few minutes before going off. I swapped the two switches in fuse box but did not help. I can unplug the engine fan and hook direct power up to it and it comes on so I know it is not the fan motor. I think I have narrowed it down to the Engine Coolant Temp Switch(green plug with two wires). Is it a way I can test the ECT to make sure that is the problem before buying one due to tight budget. If it helps I did unplug the green plug from the ECT and stuck a two prong tester in the green plug and only the a/c fan came on but was unsure if that should have made both come on or not.

Go back and fill the radiator with coolant, until it comes out the opened bleeder bolt. This will ensure there's no air in the cooling system, which can cause an engine to overheat, warp the aluminum head, and blow the head gasket. It often plays havoc with the ECT Switch operating properly.
