We broke our lease with a 30 day notice and would be out on the 20th of that month to allow them plenty of cleaning time. We paid $1,00.00 to break the lease. The manager told us he had it rented on the first of the following month. When we turned in the keys he then told us it was not going to be rented until the 15th of the following month and we needed to pay the full rent and they would return the unused amount. We have the voice mail of him telling us he rented it. Should we have to pay rent when he told us for 2 weeks he had it rented on the first and now the new tenants don't want it until the 15th?

What made you think you could break the lease without consequences? You are fortunate they are not holding you to the balance of the lease.

You owe rent until they are are able to fill the space.

" $1,00.00 " the decimal point or the comma are out of wack, what did you pay $1000.00 or $100.00? It really boils down to a witten agreement to release you from your lease, did you get a written release and, if so, what does it say

Did you read the message? I paid money to break the lease and was told the unit was filled on the first. I was told several days before vacating the unit it was not rented until the 15th of the next month. Try reading the whole message before you start giving advice in such an aggressive manner. Thanks Scott.

It was 1000.00.We did get a release and it stated we paid money to break the lease and the rent was to be paid until the unit was rented. We were told by management it was rented on the first. We were told several days before vacating it was not rented until the 15th.We have a phone message that states it was rented on the first but nothing in writing that states it was.

Umm I did read it and my answer stands. You are now adding that the early termination agreement stated that you were responsible for rent until the apartment was rented. So their new tenant was delayed. So you are responsible. Whether they told you they had a new tenant is not binding.
