I have a newborn and I live with my mom. I am 20 years old, full time job with benefits and I provide health insurance for my son.

My mom believes I am a horrible mom and she wants to get custody of my son. She said if I move out she will go for custody and I won't see him again.

Should I be worried about my son if I move out?

Unless she can prove that you're an unfit mother there's no way that she'll get custody of your son. She wouldn't just be able to say "she does this, she does that", she'd have to prove her claims.

She says that I don't bathe him enough, my room isn't suitable for a baby, I am not mature enough to handle a baby.

Yes, having a newborn my room will get messy. But I am always quick to clean it up. Also, I have a full time job and I am the only provider for my son. I get health insurance through my work.

The father is not in the picture at all. I am able to support my son on my own so I haven't filed for child support. She has 1 picture of my room being a mess, but I have 10+ pictures of her house and how it is unfit for my son.

Unless there's rotting food, corpses of dead animals, 3 month old diapers, glass and other horrific things going on in your room, I can't see how she'd get custody because you're room isn't pristine at all times.

When you say mess, what does that entail? Are we talking clothes on the floor, a few scattered toys, bed not made, or are we talking something along the lines of the show hoarders?

Hate to say it J, but when we brought our babies home our house quickly became a disaster. I never realized how much mess could be accumulated with one tiny person that couldn't even walk around. But you, our house went from pristine to a disaster zone within weeks, and I was a stay at home mom!

I was too tired to do much of the cleaning I used to do. I think most of us forget how hard it is to have a newborn in the house, and this OP is stuck in just one room, tending to all his needs. I'm not doubting that things get messy at times.

Wow, I guess I'm just OCD then because when I brought my babies home, all 4 of them, I worked my arse off to make sure the house was clean and tidy at all times.

My niece had a baby in May, she lives with my mother, her room is pristine as is the rest of the house.

I'm OCD too, but when Jared came home I was too exhausted to be the anal retentive house keeper I was before he was born. Also, I figured that the laundry could wait, that things didn't have to be spotless all the time. I finally learned to let go of my OCD tendencies and realize that we live in this house, which means that sometimes it will looked lived in. :)

But if she is talking like this, you NEED to move out since a mother should not be threatening to take the grandchild unless the mother really is bad
